The Media Broadcasting Authority of North Rhine-Westphalia is divided into two parts: "Director" and "Media Commission".
The task of the Director and his departments with about 50 staff members is to manage the LfM on a day-to-day basis and to prepare and implement the decisions made by the Media Commission.
Prof. Dr. Norbert Schneider has been Director of the LfM since July 1993.
In November 2008 the Media Commission`s members re-elected Frauke Gerlach as Chairwoman. Vice Chairwoman is again Christiane Bertels-Heering.
The Media Commission is made up of 25 members in an honorary capacity. Seven are elected by the North Rhine-Westphalian Parliament (Landtag) and 18 are appointed by "groups of particular social relevance" as specified in the NRW Media Law. The members' term of office is six years.
In order to prepare its decisions, the Media Commission has created four standing committees: the Finance Committee, the Committee for Media Development, the Committee for Research and Media Competence and the Committee for Programme.
